(Las Vegas, NV) — Even though California’s governor has called for mandatory water restrictions, policies in the Vegas Valley are not expected to change.

A spokesman for the Southern Nevada Water Authority tells the “Review-Journal” the current restrictions are “sufficient”. The SNWA launched mandatory lawn watering schedules for homes and businesses in 2003. Violators are given a warning for the first offense, but additional violations could result in fines. Las Vegas gets about 90-percent of its water from Lake Mead, which has seen levels fall over the past decade, due to the Western drought that has also affected California.

California Governor Jerry Brown says the 38 million residents of the state must help conserve what little water is left.
